...not EVEN Sametime
"We're just using Notes for e-mail and calendar. I mean, we're not EVEN using Sametime yet."
There were a few moments at Lotusphere this year that really summed things up for me better than session attendance figures, evaluations, or anything else.
The comment above was made by someone (I don't even know his name) at the blogging Birds of a Feather session. Alan Lepofsky had asked if there was anyone in the room who wasn't blogging yet but was thinking about starting, and this person stood up and explained that he was hoping to start up a blog (from the sounds of it, possibly an internal one) to show others in his company what else they could be doing with these solutions beyond just the basics.
He seemed apologetic about how his company was (or in this case wasn't) using Lotus technology, but the idea that he felt that not having Sametime implied that they were so far behind the curve just speaks volumes for me in terms of where people are in accepting the capabilities and buying into the value they deliver.
There was also another small moment that I found really interesting to observe.
At one point during the blogger Q&A held on Monday, Mike Rhodin commented on how excited he was not just because of where things like Connections and Quickr are today, but because he can see where they're going to be in 3 years. And you could see his face light up when he made that statement. This wasn't just an IBM General Manager trying to hype up his latest products. This was someone who genuinely is passionate about this technology, who really thinks this stuff is just cool.
