Nojitter: IBM in Gartner leadership Quadrant for UC
No Jitter recently reported on Gartner’s 2008 unified communications Magic Quadrant . IBM is reported as having joined the "Leaders" category in the report.
(The Gartner report reviewed the top companies that offer capabilities in at least three of six unified communications categories: voice and telephone; conferencing; messaging; presence and IM; device clients; and communications applications).
No Jitter paraphrased the IBM position in the Gartner report as follows:-
"IBM advanced significantly from Challenger status based on the extension of their Sametime product vision and delivery, in combination with both Notes and Eclipse (their application environment). Sametime Unified Telephony provides linkages into almost any installed PBX or IP PBX system to add telephony capabilities to IBM’s top-ranked collaboration products"
This is a very significant step forward for Sametime and Notes product lines, representing recognition of the many efforts and announcements in the last 12 months. And the position promises to become even better once IBM ships Sametime Unified Telephony around the end of the year. Early feedback on Sametime Unified Telephony is indicating it will be a game changing product for Sametime users. In these tough economic times, allowing new UC investments to dovetail with existing PBX systems really helps customers with their ROI story, by reducing the capital investments required for UC.
