Most. Secure. Password. Ever.

I recently had to create a new password for a website.  One that I am pretty much guaranteed not to remember, because I couldn't use any of my "usual" passwords.

Was this my bank that required that I include "3 of 4 character types" (lower case, upper case, numerals, symbols) in the password?  My credit card company? My Student loans?

No, my alma mater's alumni site

Even the whole process of requesting an ID, which started with me placing a request on the website, followed by a week's wait while they mailed me a hard-copy letter containing my ID, complete with a hand-stamped, red "Confidential" notice, was more than I've had to go through anywhere else.

Granted, I don't want someone else coming in and requesting my transcripts or redirecting my alumni address to their account, but there must be something I'm missing as to why they need things to be so very secure.
