Apparently today is the 25th anniversary of the first usage of the emoticon.

Interestingly, as much as focus group respondents like to downplay the appropriateness of emoticons in business settings, I have to say that emoticons are very heavily used here in IBM, up through the top levels of executives in the company (and when I say top levels, I mean top levels).  Our internal Sametime discussion forum has plenty of questions on how to find, migrate, and add emoticons, and some of the top Google search terms leading people to this blog are about emoticons, as well.

So, in honor of the occassion, does anyone have any good (safe) emoticon sites to recommend?
