Apparently in all the prep for the launch event, I missed this AP article from yesterday(here from BusinessWeek):

DOD embraces commercial technology

SEP. 12 5:09 P.M. ET Balancing the Pentagon's conflicting need for more information sharing among different branches of the armed forces using commercial technologies with adequate security requires increased collaboration between the military and industry providers, Defense Department leaders said Tuesday.

Examples of COTS providers meeting those goals include DISA's purchase of IBM Corp.'s Lotus Sametime instant messaging tool this past summer. The worldwide system will be available on DOD unclassified networks in December and on classified networks in January.
