Are you the next XML Superstar?

My colleagues and I have been busy at work on a number of Social Marketing-related initiatives, many of which you'll be hearing about in near future.  But there is one initiative that got previewed at the IDUG conference this week that you will definitely be hearing us talk about a lot in the coming weeks and months.

I'm referring to the IDUG "Search for the XML Superstar" competition that will officially kick off next month.  The worldwide contest will feature educational opportunities and challenges for students and professionals, and for both XML and DB2 novices as well as skilled practitioners.

Through a combination of education, exposure to practical applications, and "tests" that validate understanding and ability to program IBM database technologies, the Search for the XML Superstar will seek to recognize and encourage skills-building in the areas of DB2, XML, pureXMLTM and XQuery. Contest categories will include a XML application programming contest, a ported application contest, a database gadget contest, a video contest and a query challenge. Entries will be judged by an independent panel of practicing DB2 user professionals.

And the contest prizes are not to shabby, either: All-expense paid trips to an IBM or IDUG industry conference, a Segway i2 personal transport system, new laptops, a Nintendo Wii system, interviews and lab visits (for students), and more!

Like I said, you can expect me to be blogging a lot more about this in the coming weeks.  In the mean time, you can find more details at the contest page, and do make sure you check back once the official contest site and entry forms are available.
